How to Descale your Solis Barista Perfetta Plus Espresso Machine

Why descaling matters

Mineral build-up (from hard water) reduces performance and can shorten the lifespan of your machine. When the steam button flashes red and the coffee buttons light white, your Barista Perfetta Plus is signalling that it needs descaling.

Using a proper descaler helps maintain consistent coffee extraction, reliable steam pressure, and prevents damage to internal components. To protect your warranty and ensure optimal results, use only Solis’ dedicated descaler: Solis Solipol® — other products may damage components and void your warranty.

What you’ll need

  • One (1) L of descaling solution: 0.5 L Solipol + 0.5 L water
  • Large container (to sit under the brew head)
  • Empty milk jug or suitable container (for the steam wand)
  • Clean water for rinsing (min. 1.2 L)
  • Soft cloth (to wipe any splashes)

 

Step-by-step descaling process

  1. Remove and empty the water tank, take out the BRITA filter, and fill the tank with 0.5L Solipol + 0.5 L water (1L total solution).
  2. Place a large container under the brewing head and an empty milk jug under the steam wand.
  3. With the alarm active, press Prog. — both it and the steam button flash red.
  4. Press the steam button to begin the automatic descaling program (~15 min).
  5. During one of the cycles, turn the steam/hot-water knob to let some solution flow through the wand.
  6. When finished, two beeps sound; now rinse the system.
  7. Fill the tank with at least 1.2 L of clean water and run a full rinse cycle.
  8. Open the steam knob for 20 seconds to flush the wand.
  9. Empty, rinse, and reinstall the water tank and BRITA filter.

Tip: wipe away any descaling splashes immediately to protect the surface.

 

Aftercare & tips

  • Descale the machine regularly, especially if your water is hard.
  • Always use the BRITA water filter (or replace it when due) to reduce mineral deposits.
  • Immediately wipe away any descaling solution splashes from the machine exterior — the solution is effective but may harm finishes if left.
  • Keep the descaler and related safety information handy — don’t reuse leftover solution.
